FARC and Colombia's government reach a new peace agreement
The government of Colombia has reached a new agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) six weeks after voters narrowly rejected a previous deal. The new agreement to end the continuing Colombian armed conflict which has been raging since 1964, “includes changes, precisions and additions from the most diverse sectors of society,” the government and the FARC, said in a joint communique. The new agreement aimed at addressing the concerns of opponents of the original deal clarifies the conditions under which FARC leaders would be deprived of their liberty. In early October voters rejected the original deal by 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent.
Iranian reporter dies in Aleppo shelling
A correspondent for Iranian IRIB broadcaster, Mohsen Khazaei, was killed in mortar shelling in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo during a fierce fighting between government forces and the militants, IRIB reported, adding that its operator was also injured in the incindent. The Iranian crew fell under heavy mortar fire by militants in the western part of the city.
4.2 earthquake hits central Italy
Central Italy has been struck by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake, the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said. According to the scientists, the epicenter of the quake was located about 109 kilometers away from Rome, in a Maltignano region, and at a depth of 10 meters. There have been no reports about any casualties or damages so far.
Four victims of Taliban attack on Bagram Americans - Ash Carter
US Defence Secretary Ash Carter has revealed that the two of the men who died in Saturday's attack on Bagram airbase outside Kabul, were American military personnel, and the other two US contractors. 16 other US personnel and one Polish serviceman were injured in the suicide attack on the largest US facility in Afghanistan.
Ethiopian government has jailed over 11,000 since introducing state of emergency
The Ethiopian government has revealed the scale of its crackdown, following the introduction of a state of emergency in early October, prompted by civil unrest throughout the country. "Some 11,607 individuals have so far been detained in six prisons, of which 347 are female, in connection with the state of emergency declared in the country," State of Emergency Inquiry Board chairperson Taddesse Hordofa said on state television, without revealing how many had been charged or released. Those detained have been accused of violence towards officials and other citizens, incitement, and disruption of infrastructure.
LAPD arrest 150 at anti-Trump rally in downtown Los Angeles
About 150 protesters were detained buses during protests against Donald Trump's election in Grand Park in Los Angeles early on Saturday, the LA Times has reported. The demonstration drew about 3,000 citizens, chanting "Not my President!" and was mostly peaceful, until a small section of demonstrators began to pelt police with stones, and vandalize property. LAPD labeled the gathering a “violent congregation” and began to take "proactive" measures to break up the demonstration.
