Pakistan's army said it has given death sentences to 13 "hard-core terrorists" who it said were involved in attacks that killed hundreds of innocent civilians.
The announcement came on the second anniversary of a Pakistani Taliban attack on a Peshawar school that killed 154 people, mostly schoolchildren, and prompted an intensified nationwide campaign against militants by the army.
Army and law enforcement officials said on December 16 that those condemned to death include militants who planned and executed attacks on Bacha Khan University in Charsada, Parade Lane Mosque in Rawalpindi, the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad, the World Vision office in Mansehra, and an educational institution in Nawagai Buner.
The army said the militants were involved in attacks that killed 325 people in all and injured 366 others. It said the militants were tried by military courts before receiving death sentences.
